This position will perform audits of TV productions (scripted and unscripted) which includes audit of production services companies and tax incentives. It also includes setting up controls and procedures and testing those. This role also involves assisting with reviewing Film production budgets, cost reports and cash flows and other reports provided by the Production Accountants and at times assisting in responding to other ad-hock reporting requests as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review 3rd party productions’ submission of monthly financials (cost reports, bank reconciliation, trial balance and cost reports). This will at times involve correcting these or setting up procedures to improve future submissions.
• Travel independently to TV production offices both domestically and internationally (usually Canada) during production of the show.
• Coordinate meetings directly with producers, unit production managers and various department heads to gain an understanding of the production status and overall compliance with Hallmark Media’s expectations.
• Perform detailed financial audits & compliance reviews of cost reports, budgets, ATL & BTL payroll, accounts payable, petty cash and production reports on TV programming.
• Review that adequate documentation exist, and appropriate procedures are followed to ensure tax credits are maximized.
• Assess adherence to contract by reviewing union requirements (if applicable), cast & crew contracts and vendor agreements in conjunction with Hallmark Media’s production accounting manual and federal laws.
• The position would additionally involve liaison with external auditors.
• Prepare and present audit findings to both the Production services company and Hallmark Media executives.
• Work with the Production Finance Manager to test implementation of various new database tools, review budgets and assist with other financial aspects of TV Movies and Series Productions using analytical, accounting and other production experience.
• Assist in tracking and analyzing production budgets, and cost reports across productions.
• Assist in tracking spend across various TV Movies/ Series and unscripted programming. This may include various sub-reports like film tax credits, star, snow analysis.
• Assist in developing standard budgets, Chart f Accounts, templates, cash flows and standardize other processes. This may include being involved in the development of a more efficient IT program to track film costs.
• Improve the existing controls and procedures including updating the Production Accounting Manual. This includes describing processes through Visio or other tools.
• Maintain organized accounting record keeping.
• Assist in preparing ad hoc reports, analyses and special projects when needed.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
• Accounting background including knowledge of trial balance, financials, general ledger entries and bank reconciliations required.
• Knowledge of production accounting software like Entertainment Partners or Cast and Crew.
• Minimum 2 years’ production accounting, film/TV finance experience (TV or Film and/or accounting in the film industry) or accounting experience.
• Minimum 2 years financial audit experience.
• Familiarity with guild rules, production payroll and using production payroll rate sheets with respect to made for Basic Cable television movies. SAG-AFTRA, WGA, WGC, DGA, DGC, UPCP/ACTRA desired.
• Microsoft Office Suite experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business/Econ.
• Attention to detail, desire for accuracy, and a sense of urgency.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Advanced Excel skills and intermediate skills in all other Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Strong willingness to learn and be a great team player.
• Strong analytical skills with an ability to find solutions and setting up check points for verification of accuracy of work performed.
• Proficiency with Movie Magic Budgeting desired.
• Viso or familiarity with similar process software desired.
$62,200- $83,000 / year
